We are walking through Galatians verse by verse because this letter will not let us treat the gospel as something we already know and can safely move past. Paul takes us back to the grace of God in Christ, then shows us what that grace means for the way we live, the way we love one another, and the way the church stands firm in the truth.
We are taking our time with the text. Each Sunday sermon is followed by a companion Bible study where we can slow down, work through the details, and answer the questions we could not cover in the message. Choose a sermon below to find the video and notes for both.
How we are studying Galatians
No verse gets hurried past.
Our goal is not simply to cover Galatians. We want to understand what Paul actually said and why he said it. That means every verse is carefully and painstakingly exegeted. We pay attention to the words, the grammar, the historical setting, the flow of Paul’s argument, and how each part fits within the whole message of the letter.
I consult a wide range of trusted commentaries and study tools. They do not replace the biblical text, and they do not always agree with one another. They help us ask better questions, see where the difficult interpretive decisions are, and test our conclusions before we bring the teaching to the church.
